"commandline": "C:\\Program Files\\Git\\bin\\bash. You can add a profile in the JSON settings file of Windows Terminal, such as below. You'll just need to find the location of bash.exe included in Git for Windows, which in the bin folder of your Git installation. Since you are working in Git Bash, but not necessarily in mintty, you can choose to access Git Bash via another terminal, such as Windows Terminal. Its ls function operates differently from Bash or Git Bash, which is why ls -lt doesn't work. When you use the Windows Terminal app, which I highly recommend, it defaults to PowerShell. The terminal that it opens in is not Windows Terminal or even Windows Console, but another called mintty. Git Bash is a program that packages Bash and a collection of other utilities such as ssh and scp, compiled for Windows. There are also other options, such as cmder and terminus as mentioned. Currently, customizations can only be done via editing a JSON settings file, but a GUI settings page is currently being developed. Within Windows Terminal, you can customize the color scheme and such just like in iTerm2 on MacOS. The Windows Terminal, just like iTerm2, is only a terminal application for the shell of your choice. Built in Windows are cmd and PowerShell. When you open cmd or PowerShell, it currently still defaults to the Windows Console as the terminal. However, there are similar counterparts to the shells in MacOS and other unix-based systems. On Windows, things work a little differently, because it was built with a different goal in mind compared to unix systems. You can interact with the chosen shell through the default Terminal app, or through iTerm2, or any of the replacements listed for example here. On MacOS, there are multiple shells that you can choose from (according to Wikipedia), such as Bash, Tcsh, ksh or zsh. I think that you'll first need to take a look at this or/and this, which explains the difference between a terminal and a shell. I am not looking for anything super fancy, I basically just want to change the colors! I have seen lots of terminal customization posts, and it all looks very cool but a bit more than what I am looking for. So my question is this: is there another terminal for Windows that is similar to Git Bash (i.e., let me use git and bash.sorry if that is a stupid question) where I could easily install different color schemes? And a similar question for previous/current Mac users: which terminal do you use on Windows? Git Bash works fine for the most part, but what I noticed is I really do not seem to be able to easily change colors here the way I did on iTerm2. I use git quite often for version control. This is something I use because my advisor uses it. For the command line, I have been using Git Bash. I switched to a Windows computer in Jaunary and have been pretty happy with it. I did not have to design the color schemes but could rather easily find them online and install to change things up if I so chose. It was fairly easy to change the color scheme on iTerm2, which I did every now and then and it just made me feel good/more comfortable when I could switch the colors after a while. iTerm2 was just a suggestion by the person who taught me how to use the command line in the first place, so I didn't have any real attachment for it/reason to use it apart from that. I used to have a Mac and used iTerm2 to get around on the command line. The story is this: I do a bit of computer programming for work, primarily just writing and running python scripts for data processing.
